Qualification Required
- For the post of Loco Pilot, it is necessary to have minimum 10th pass from any recognized board or university.
- Along with this, the candidate should have an ITI or Diploma degree.
- Candidates should have done their diploma course in electrical, automobile or mechanical (any one).
- Along with this, any college from which you are completing this diploma course, that college should be certified from All India Counseling for Technical Education (AICTE).
Age limit
- Candidate age should be 18 to 28 years for general category, while 3 years relaxation is given for OBC and 5 years for SC ST category.
Physical Eligibility
- Eyes play the most important role in becoming a loco pilot. Your eyes should be the healthiest. If you have any problem with your eyes. The eye vision of the candidate should be very good. If it is weak then you can not apply for loco pilot.
- There is no height criteria to become a loco pilot. But your body weight should be equal to your height.

Courses for Loco Pilot
If you have done any of these four courses then you can become a loco pilot.
- ITI
If you want to become a loco pilot then you have to do your ITI in electrical or automobile or mechanical.
- Diploma
If you are thinking of doing a diploma course, then you have to do a diploma in electrical, automobile or mechanical engineering to become a Loco Pilot.
- Engineering
You can also become a Loco Pilot after doing electrical engineering, automobile engineering, and mechanical engineering courses.
- Graduation
If your graduation is complete and then after that you want to become a loco pilot, you can still become a loco pilot. For this you have to do a Postgraduate diploma 2 years after graduation and you can do that diploma in electrical or automobile or mechanical.
Assistant Loco Pilot Exams
To become a loco pilot, the exam is held in following stages-
- Computer Based Test (CBT 1)
- Computer Based Test (CBT 2)
- Computer Based Test (CBAT)
- Document Verification
There is negative marking in both the levels of CBT. One can appear in CBAT only after clearing both the levels (CBT-1 CBT-2). Candidates will be considered eligible for document verification only after clearing CBAT.
