Kolkata Police Constable – Eligibility Criteria
1. Candidates must pass the Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
2. They should be able to read, write, and speak Bengali.
3. This language requirement doesn’t apply to permanent residents of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts.
Kolkata Police Constable 2024 Selection Process
The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board (WBPRB) is responsible for hiring constables and lady constables for the Kolkata Police force. There are five steps in the selection process for KP Constable Recruitment 2024:
- Written Examination: In this first step, there will be a written exam consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. Each question is worth one point, but if an answer is wrong, 0.25 points will be deducted from the total score. These scores won’t count towards the final merit list.
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT): If a candidate passes the written exam, they will move on to the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), where their height, weight, and chest measurements (for male candidates only) will be taken.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Those who pass the PMT will then take part in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). This involves ‘running’ to evaluate the candidate’s fitness level.
- Final Written Exam: After passing both the PMT and PET, candidates will sit for another written exam. Like before, the exam consists of multiple-choice questions of 85 questions with 1 mark for correct answer and a negative marking of 1/4th for incorrect answer. However, unlike the first written exam, the scores from this test will determine whether or not a candidate moves on to the final round.
- Interview: Finally, those who pass the second written exam will participate in an interview. During the interview, candidates will be evaluated based on their responses as well as their proficiency in speaking Bengali. The results from the interview and the previous written exam will be used to create the final merit list.
- Verification of Character and Antecedents: Government job selection involves antecedent verification of qualifications and character, followed by address, nativity, education, and criminal background checks by authorities for final appointment confirmation..
- Medical Test: The authorities will assess your physical suitability for the position.
